Grace and Humilty: Nike KD 7 Aunt Pearl

Nike and Kevin Durant continue to honor is Aunt with the Nike KD 7 Aunt Pearl

In the year 2001, Kevin Durant lost his Aunt Pearl to Lung Cancer. A source of inspiration and optimism in his life, Kevin has chosen to honor her several different ways. Working with Nike Basketball designer Leo Chang, the latest dedication to his Aunt come via the Nike KD 7 Aunt Pearl.

Inspired by the tattoo on his back, the Nike KD 7 Aunt Pearl blends the unshakable love he has for his Aunt with┬áthe passion and drive he has for the sport of basketball. Both a personal and public sentiment, the new version of the includes a strap inspired by the Ricky Harris created angel tattoo on his back. The “3D” version of the angel’s wing wraps across the midfoot helping to keep you locked in and secure, a fitting metaphor for the way Kevin’s Aunt held him down as a kid.

In addition to dedication the shoe to his Aunt, the Nike and Kevin Durant linked with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to help fund research for the future. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo is represented on the heel of the shoe and again on the liner in pink. In addition to the pink accents, the shoe is based in white with gold accents on the tongue and over the Nike Swoosh at the toe.

The Nike KD 7 Aunt Pearl will release at select Nike Basketball retailers on February 19.
